A number of U.S. energy pipeline construction projects are aiming for completion in 2024.

One is spearheaded by Equitrans Midstream Corp. The $7.2 billion, 303-mile project is on schedule to finish in the first quarter of this year. Its scope includes a 42-inch-diameter natural gas pipeline stretching north-south through West Virginia and continuing southeast through Virginia. The pipeline will transport up to two billion cubic feet of clean-burning natural gas daily.

The MVP Joint Venture team is comprised of Equitrans Midstream Corp., NextEra Capital Holdings, Inc., Con Edison Transmission, WGL Midstream and RGC Midstream, LLC.

Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2024 on an approximately 14-month timeline to build the Summit Pipeline, a $4.5 billion, 2,000-mile-long project in partnership with more than 30 ethanol plants across five states – Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska. Summit Carbon Solutions’ goal is to gather and compress carbon dioxide produced by the ethanol plants and carry it across the Midwest to be permanently stored underground in North Dakota.

WBI Energy, an MDU Resources Group company, is planning to begin construction in early 2024 on the Wahpeton Expansion Project, 60.2 miles of 12-inch-diameter natural gas pipeline to serve the cities of Wahpeton (located one hour south of Fargo) and Kindred, N.D. Construction is anticipated to complete by November 2024.
