Meta Constructing $800 Million Data Center Near Boise

November 1, 2023|

KUNA, Idaho – Hensel Phelps is building the 15th U.S. data center for Meta (Formerly Facebook) in a town of 24,000 that is located approximately 20 miles southwest of Boise.

The 960,000-square-foot facility broke ground in Fall 2022 and is on track for completion in late 2025.

It is not Hensel Phelps’ first project in the mission critical market.

The project is anticipated to create more than 1,200 construction jobs and 100 permanent jobs.

In addition to construction of the data center, Hensel Phelps is partnering with Meta and the City of Kuna to build a 2.13 million-square-foot water/wastewater plant that consists of four wells and storage tanks for the water supply system, plus five lagoons for the wastewater system that will be connected to the data center through miles of underground piping and pumps.

Kuna, Idaho is located approximately 300 miles from the original Facebook data center campus in Prineville, Ore.

Meta is the largest purchaser of third-party wholesale data center space built by developers, leasing 283 megawatts of capacity across six markets, according to North American Data Centers.

The company has built and operated approximately nearly 20 data centers globally to date. Meta’s Kuna center will be its 15th campus in the U.S.
