MILWAUKEE. Wis. – A 32-story-tall future mass timber building designed to rise from the ground along Milwaukee’s downtown RiverWalk marks the fruition of The Neutral Project, a real estate development firm focused on building carbon-neutral projects nationwide.

Dubbed The Edison, the premier multifamily development will include 381 rental apartments built with mass timber technology and materials.

Next-gen real estate investment firm e-States is partnering with The Neutral Project on this venture.

The project will be designed and built utilizing Passive House principles – an ultra energy-efficient form of building design that has the goal of optimizing insulation, ventilation and airtight construction to dramatically reduce heating and cooling energy usage. According to the project’s developers, this methodology results in up to 80 percent less energy consumption compared to standard buildings.

The Edison will also boast high-efficiency heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, carbon reduction electronic devices and green roofs. Garden terraces, vegetable planters and small trees will decorate the top-floor amenity deck.

Mass timber design will show itself within each unit via exposed wood on the ceilings, beams and columns.

Construction is expected to begin in mid-2024.
