Mattoon, Ill. Constructing $70 Million Sports Complex

MATTOON, Ill. – The City of Mattoon is partnering with architect Kimley-Horn and Grunloh Construction, Inc. in building a $70 million sports complex on 150 acres along the west side of Interstate 57.

Fall 2024 is the targeted completion timeframe for the interior of the complex, which broke ground in May 2023. The entire project is anticipated to wrap in 2025.

The sporting portion of the mixed-use development encompasses indoor and outdoor areanas for basketball, volleyball and baseball, with eight basketball courts, 16 volleyball courts, eight ball diamonds, 16 multi-purpose fields, a family entertainment center and walkable retail and restaurants.

A medical facility is also part of the project scope.

Names Emerald Acres Sports Connection, the development is expected to attract 580,000 visitors annually and generate a $23.8 million economic impact.

Bids are currently being sought for road construction leading to the development.
