WASHINGTON, D.C. – The joint venture ADVANCE – representing AECOM and Jacobs – is preparing to begin construction on a major rail tunnel project aimed at reducing the current rail bottleneck between D.C. and New Jersey.
The project’s general contractor and the Frederick Douglass Tunnell Program builder is the joint venture Kiewit-Shea.
Modernizing and tranforming a 10-mile section of the Northeast Corridor is the project’s primary goal.
Utility relocations and construction of the first of five bridges is part of the project scope.
Pre-demolition and other early work began in 2023. Demolition is currently underway, according to ADVANCE.
