University of WI-Superior Building $7.1 Million Stadium

April 24, 2024|

SUPERIOR, Wis. – After a two-year delay and 30 percent cost increase, the University of Wisconsin-Superior’s new stadium project is becoming reality.

In March, contractor Northern Interstate Construction, Inc. began building the project with Rettler Corp. as the architect.

Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium was initially anticipated to begin construction in late 2022. Delays and a hefty cost increase – from $5.1 million to $7.1 million – pushed the project’s start to Spring 2024.

Cenovus Energy stepped in with a three-year partnership commitment worth $450,000.

The project includes construction of a nine-lane track, an artificial turf stadium, a grandstand and press facilities.

On April 25, the university and project partners celebrated the project’s groundbreaking.

The stadium will be home to the Yellowjacket men’s and women’s soccer teams and the men’s and women’s outdoor track and field team.

Sporting events, enriching academics and youth programs will also be hosted at the new venue.
