Peoria Airport to Get New Air Traffic Control Tower

February 15, 2024|

PEORIA, Ill. – The Federal Aviation Administration has granted $15 million in Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act funding toward a $27 million project to construct a replacement air traffic control tower at Peoria’s General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport.

The existing tower is co-located with the old terminal, which opened in 1959.

Specifics of the project include a 9-story, 146-foot-tall tower, a single-story and a 14,560-square-foot base building.

The new tower will meet all Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

Crawford, Murphy & Tilly, Inc. is the engineering consultant. The construction project is now out for bids.

Airport officials say they’re planning to begin construction in July with completion in Spring 2026.
