COLUMBIA, Mo. – An $8 million public safety-related construction project – being designed by Columbia, Mo.-based PWArchitects – is out for bid, one that will serve as one of the first such facilities in the U.S. to provide affordable, on-site daycare services for first responders.

San Diego Police Officer’s Association’s childcare center is the inspiration for this project.

The project, half of which is funded with federal dollars and the other half from local funding, will include construction of a new sheriff’s office annex building and a tactical firing range. Within the 22,620-square-foot annex building, there will be the daycare, office and meeting rooms, exercise and skilled training rooms, toilets and support spaces.

An all-new, 27,468-square-foot tactical firing range is also part of the project’s scope. It will include a 12-lane shooting range, shoot house training area, lobby, toilets and support spaces.

The project is now out for bid with contractors.
