NEW ORLEANS, La. – Local developer Bayou Phoenix is finetuning architectural and engineering plans for a massive redevelopment of the former Six Flags amusement park site that Hurricane Katrina destroyed in August 2005.

Nearly two decades later, what is now known as Lincoln Beach Redevelopment is taking shape on paper.

The multi-year. mixed-use project scope calls for one million square feet of warehousing and logistics plus a series of hospitality-centric offerings such as a hotel, indoor-outdoor water park, restaurants and shops, sports fields and a beach – the first public beach New Orleans has seen in decades.

The $500 million-plus effort received approval in Fall 2023 by the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority. Bayou Phoenix is seeking $100 million in government funding in an effort to establish a public-private partnership structure.
