Bids Out for Construction of Future Venice Elementary Campus

December 12, 2023|

VENICE, ILL. – FGM Architects has designed the new Venice Elementary School that will replace one that was condemned three years ago due to structural issues.

Construction of the new elementary school is anticipated to begin in Spring 2024 with completion by June 2025. The construction firm has not yet been chosen.

In September 2020, according to Venice CUSD #3 Superintendent Cynthia Tolbert, the former school building at 300 South 4th Street was deemed no longer structurally sound. All students were evacuated and spent much of the 2020-2021 school year learning virtually. Since then, students have been learning at a temporary location in the Melvin Price Depot in Granite City.

$26 million was allocated for emergency school construction by the Illinois Capital Development Board. The new school will sit on the site at 700 Broadway that was formerly inhabited by Venice High School. The new building is aiming for LEED Silver accreditation and will include a storm shelter.
