KCI Selected for Improve I-70 Truck Parking Design/Build

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – KCI Construction has been selected by the Missouri Dept. of Transportation as the design-build contractor for the Improve I-70: Truck Parking project, another major milestone in Missouri’s historic investment in the I-70 corridor.

The project is part of MoDOT’s statewide Improve I-70 Program and will expand and modernize truck parking facilities across Missouri’s busiest freight corridor.

The KCI construction team is joining with designer Bartlett & West to deliver improvements at four I-70 locations including Concordia, Boonville, Mineola and Wright City, Mo.

More than 10,000 trucks travel Missouri’s I-70 corridor every day, and existing public parking facilities regularly exceed capacity. By creating safer off-highway parking options, the project will improve safety for both commercial drivers and the traveling public while reducing roadway damage caused by trucks parking along ramps and shoulders.

A nearly $30 million project, the work will add 255 new truck parking stalls, increasing the total number of public truck parking spaces along the corridor to 506. Additional improvements include new car and RV parking, upgraded lighting, pavement improvements, restroom remodels and the addition of pollinator habitats across multiple project sites.

“This project represents another opportunity for KCI to help shape the future of transportation infrastructure in Missouri,” said Brian Mulhall, vice president of transportation at KCI Construction. “We’re proud to continue our partnership with MoDOT and look forward to delivering another impactful improvement to Missouri’s I-70 corridor.”

The project will utilize the design-build delivery method, allowing design and construction activities to move forward simultaneously to accelerate delivery and improve efficiency. Construction is anticipated to begin in Fall 2026 with completion expected in late 2028.
