NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The joint venture of Barton Malow Builders & Edifice Construction is building the future $1.2 billion
Roper Hospital Medical Campus in North Charleston.
Construction on the 27-acre campus near Interstate 26 is expected to complete in 2029. The project – an 805,000-square-foot, 10-story tower, will feature a helipad on the 11th floor and a total of 328 beds.
The work began in Spring 2026, following completion of below-grade foundational work and vertical structural steel installation.
It’s the state’s biggest vertical construction project underway.

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill is serving as the lead design architect, handling the overarching campus master plan and resilient public space design.

E4H Environments for Health Architecture is serving as the core project architect, utilizing its specialized expertise as a dedicated healthcare design firm.

This project is expected to create approximately 3,600 construction-related jobs.
