MIAMI, Fla. – Construction has begun on the Helen and Jacob Shaham Academic Medical Center, a $158 million academic and healthcare facility on the campus of Florida International University in Miami.
Set to open in 2028, the facility is being built by Robins & Morton and Thornton Construction in a joint venture, with Stantec serving as the architect.
The facility will be built in partnership with Baptist Health South Florida and FIU’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and will include 163,000 square feet of academic, research and outpatient space.
Named for Helen and Jacob Shaham after their $30 million gift to FIU Medicine, the seven-story facility will include diagnostic imaging, same-day surgery and several ambulatory care services. Operations will be overseen by Baptist Health South Florida.
