CHICAGO, Ill. – Chicago’s South Side will soon welcome a new $300 million community hospital.

Advocate Health Care hosted a groundbreaking in June for a new $300 million facility located at the former U.S. Steel South Works site near the lakefront.

CannonDesign is the architect.

Power Construction and Ujamaa Construction are the general contractors.

As the first new hospital in the community in more than a century, the new 52-bed medical center will serve as a replacement for the Advocate Trinity Hospital and will be part of the health system’s $1 billion investment in expanding access to medical care in that region of the city.

The project will include new Neighborhood Care Sites, expanded outpatient services, new workforce development initiatives, a 16-bay emergency department, advanced diagnostic imaging, a cardiac catheterization lab and robotic surgical capabilities.

Advocate has announced it will commit to retaining all existing employees and hiring 1,000 new employees by the end of 2027. T

The new hospital will also be LEED-certified and carbon-neutral.
