PORTLAND, Ore. – The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) District project in Portland is a 24-acre, multi-decade, mixed-use redevelopment that includes a Center for Tribal National designed by Indigenous-led Earthwise Design.
It aims to build a three million-square-foot campus featuring 1,200 units of market rate and affordable housing, education and retail.
It is aiming to transform Portland’s east waterfront along the Willamette River with thousands of housing units, commercial spaces and parks.
Developer Edien & Co. has been leading the infrastructural progress this year in preparation for construction. ZGF Architects is the master planner and architect. Progress is anticipated to begin later in 2026.
Total cost is estimated at approximately $90 million for initial infrastructure and planning, with the potential to generate more than $1 billion in private investment. Portland City Council, together with funds from multiple granting bodies, has raised $15.4 million toward the massive effort.
The OMSI District received $850,000 in federal funding this spring to begin infrastructure work on Southeast Portland roads, marking the first step in the neighborhood’s revitalization plan.
