July 5, 2024|

VANCOUVER, Wash. – A $6 billion project to replace the Interstate 5 Bridge across the Columbia River between Washington and Oregon is moving closer to letting bids for a heavy highway general contractor.

The 5-mile bridge modernization project’s goal is to replace the two existing spans – one built in 1917 and the other built in 1958 – with one 1,381-mile span. The entire modernization project is anticipated to last 10 years, with the span portion occupying five to six years.

A total of seven interchanges are included in the project scope.

Both the Washington and Oregon Depts. of Transportation are collaborating on the project.

I-5 is the only highway stretching from Canada to Mexico and serves as a crucial, intermodal trade route.
