HARTFORD, Conn. – The biggest vertical construction project in Hartford is the $1 billion expansion of Hartford Hospital by Hartford HealthCare.

The centerpiece is a massive 14-story, $950 million patient tower.

Hartford HealthCare has not yet publicly announced the general contractor or the architect for the project.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027.

In the past, major construction projects on the campus – such as the Bone and Joint Institute – were led by Gilbane Building Company. Additionally, related precast work on the campus’s new parking garage infrastructure involves Dailey Precast LLC.

The monumental vertical development will completely transform the hospital’s campus in the South End into a premier academic medical center. Key features include:

• The Tower: At 14 stories, it will be the tallest building on the 70-acre campus. It will feature 216 private inpatient beds and three floors of advanced procedural space.
• Expanded Emergency Department: The project drastically redesigns the ED to reduce overcrowding and hallway boarding Hartford Hospital to receive nearly $1 billion investment – WFSB.
• Arrival Center & Additional Facilities: Includes a massive new parking garage at Seymour and Jefferson streets (already underway), a two-story public atrium, a restaurant and a 500-person conference center.
