Construction Leads from the Front: Why You Need to Be at Contractors Speak Up Day

AGC of Missouri Speak Up Days at the Missouri Capitol in Jefferson City are planned for March 10, April 1 and April 15

By MATT BOYD

Most of us didn’t get into construction because of the politics. We got into it because we enjoy building things and working alongside our great teams – not debating them – to create a finished product that we can all be proud of.

But whether we pay attention to politics or not, politics is paying attention to us. The decisions made at the Capitol affect our workforce, regulations, projects and bottom line. If we’re not part of the conversation, someone else is – and he or she may not understand our industry the way we do.

The good news? Legislators want to meet with us. We’re their constituents. We’re the people who build their districts, employ their voters and contribute significantly to the state’s economy. When contractors show up, they listen; this is due to a long-standing presence with positive results.

That’s why Contractors Speak Up Day matters.

The Associated General Contractors of Missouri makes the process straightforward and productive. We start at 9 a.m. with a focused, practical briefing on the key issues impacting construction, review clear talking points and then head to the Capitol around 10 a.m. to meet with our state representatives and senators.

AGCMO will fully prepare and equip you before you walking through those doors. You won’t be on an island. You’ll be alongside a strong team, building relationships and having meaningful conversations that truly make a difference. No prior experience is needed.

It’s also genuinely enjoyable. You spend the morning with other industry members, compare notes, share a few laughs and strengthen relationships both at the Capitol and within AGCMO. In just a couple of hours, you’ve networked, advocated, and made a real impact.

Contractors Speak Up Day is one of the most effective uses of a few hours you’ll make all year. It’s not about being political; it’s about being present. It’s about protecting and advancing the industry that supports our employees, our families and our communities. You do make a difference when present.

If you work in construction, what happens in Jefferson City has a direct impact on your job site, your team members, your family, and the overall health of our industry. The decisions made there influence the work we do every day and the long-term well-being of everyone connected to it.

Show up. Speak up. It matters.
