SOUTHHAVEN, Miss. – Phased installation of additional server racks, continuous energy grid integration and hardware scaling continues at the site of xAI’s new data center campus in Southhaven, Miss.

Southhaven is approximately 14 miles south of Memphis, Tenn.

Full completion of the project is anticipated in Q1 2027.

A 1.2-gigawatt, 810,000-square-foot natural gas turbine power plant is keeping the new MACROHARDRR campus humming. And an $80 million supporting wastewater treatment facility is handling regional cooling needs.

It’s the largest vertical construction project and is aimed at powering AI systems like Grok.

Because of the extreme speed and secrecy of the build – often referred to as “Musk speed” – much of the project is being managed directly through xAI affiliates like MZX Tech LLC, alongside internal engineering and procurement teams rather than a single traditional commercial general contractor.

Work has been segmented out to various specialized contracting firms including Darana Hybrid – an industrial contractor that has handled critical mechanical and electrical system installations – plus local subs handling specific phases of the work.

The initial phase of the xAI Southaven data center (MACROHARDRR) officially completed construction and began operations in February.

Because the project relies on retrofitting an existing massive warehouse space, the physical infrastructure is being delivered in modular, overlapping phases.
