Is the Jobsite Actually AI-Readable?
By SEUNG PARK
There are five big questions to ask regarding smart construction AX.
Preparing for my keynote at Trimble AEC Camp 2026 completely flipped my perspective.
At first, I treated smart construction AX (AI transformation) as a “possibility for the somewhat distant future.” But diving back into our site data – DWGs, BIM, drone scans, 360° videos and 3D scans – hit me with a realization:
The starting point for AX isn’t buying fancy AI software. It’s organizing the “data silos” piling up across our jobsites.
Expecting AI to read and reason with data that humans can barely find, open or interpret is pure fantasy.
Let’s unpack how a fragmented construction site transforms into AI-readable architecture.
Question 1: Is the jobsite actually AI-readable?
This requires deconstructing the three layers of the construction data crisis:
File, format and semantic silos.
Question 2: Are Hoban’s 4 core DX infrastructures just brand-new silos? →
This necessitates seeing how the anchor of BIM binds DWGs, drones, 360° video and 3D scans into a single shared context.
Question 3: Is a CDE just a glorified cloud drive?
Transforming a repository into an orchestration hub where data begins to explain itself is critical.
Question 4: Can a CDE built for humans become the native home for AI?
This involves the discovery that an architecture built for site decisions naturally became the language of AI.
Question 5: Smart Construction AX: Possibility or Conviction?
What multimodal vision, spatial awareness and construction RAG actually look like onsite. https://lnkd.in/g39K3P4Q
Ultimately, the thesis boils down to four lines:
- DX generates the data
- BIM gives it context.
- The CDE orchestrates it.
- AI reasons upon it.
The question we need to ask is no longer, “Can AI be applied to the construction site?”
The question is, “Is our site data structured for AI to read it?”
