SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Known as the gateway to San Diego’s “Big Bay,” the popular Harbor Island West Marina is embarking on a $70 million redevelopment and rebuild that will encompass nearly four acres of land and 22 acres of water.
Reports list Bellingham Marine as the lead on waterside construction, with Pacific Building Group leading the construction on land. Construction is expected to be completed in phases over the next two years. HIW Associates is the developer with AO as the design firm.
Originally built more than 50 years ago, the marina will include a state-of-the-art concrete dock system and 623 slips ranging from 20 to 140 feet to accommodate superyachts to smaller entry-level sail and power boats and all sizes in between.
The marina will also be upgraded with a host of enhanced amenities, including a boater lounge, shower rooms, a business center, pool, spas and a fitness center.
The project will also add 16,000 square feet of commercial space, retail storefronts, a market and café. Parking will be improved – including dedicated public parking – and the redeveloped marina will tout a public viewing deck and waterfront promenade to “reflect San Diego’s world-class waterfront lifestyle,” according to the marina’s website.
